Chalon-sur-Saône is located in Burgundy in France, 330km south-east from Paris and 120km north of Lyon. With around 45000 inhabitants, Chalon-sur-Saône is one of the major economical centers in the center-east of France with major industries located. Less known to the public, yet Chalon-sur-Saône is also the place where photography was invented and the very first photography ever taken in the world was realized. Hence, it is naturally that Chalon-sur-Saône became pioneering in virtual reality in France with the installation in the late 1990s of a research laboratory dedicated to immersive technologies and including teaching programs in virtual reality.
